A Golden Opportunity?

Are you considering gold as investment? We'll cover the different ways to invest in gold to help you decide which investment type is best for you.

Being a smart investor means knowing about the various gold investment opportunities before you make any decisions. We believe that knowledge is the key to good investing, and this applies to investors at any level.

That's why we've devoted an entire page to the different ways you can invest in gold. At the bottom of the page you'll also find out about our advanced learning resources from expert investor, Dan Fournier.

There are several paths to choose from when it comes to gold as investment. Below, we'll briefly discuss each one based on Fournier's investment guide.

1. Gold Bars & Coins

Gold bars and coins are the way to enjoy your investment in a tangible way. Coins tend to increase their value over time, and are for the most part a safe investment choice. However, you'll have to take care of acquiring, storing, and insuring the gold yourself.

2. Gold Certificates

Unlike gold bars and coins, gold certificates don't allow you to hold the asset in your hands. The certificate is purchased from a financial institution, and the upside is that they take care of acquiring, storing, and insuring the gold for you.

3. Gold-Denominated Currency Accounts

This type of gold as investment simply means an account where you've exchanged your local currency for gold. It's a strategic investment for when the price of gold rises (i.e. your money is going further), but the downside is that the price of gold can also drop at any time.

4. Gold Stocks and Mutual Funds

Stocks and mutual funds are an indirect way that you can invest in gold, because you're not actually dealing with gold yourself. Rather, you're investing in a company in the gold industry (i.e. a gold mine company). When the price of gold rises, so does your overall investment.
